I have been wanting to do a mother earth/green goddess sort of shoot. This one was a pain.. gluing all of the greens to a dress I bought on offer up. Then trying to get the girls in it without it falling apart LOL! What a disaster. But with a bit of photoshopping it looks really great. A huge thank you to Kristen, Denise, and Maya for modeling for us and for Junior, Noah, and Ryan for just coming along and shooting.
We started the whole process at my home where Maya and I did everyone’s hair and makeup. I loved all four of us being shoved together in front of a bathroom mirror and sharing makeup, it’s such an intimate bonding moment, and a tiny celebration of femininity. Perfectly fitting for our green goddess photoshoot!
After the hair and makeup whirlwind I added some finishing touches to the plant dress I made and helped Denise get it on and waddle over to the car without it completely falling apart. The other girls finished getting ready in their coordinated green outfits and we were on our way! I knew when I first came to this area I wanted to do this photoshoot in San Dimas, this little spot I found is so abundant of greenery and flower fields and you can even see mountains. It’s so ethereal and perfect for what I was trying to achieve.
It was a little chilly when we got there but there was a perfect amount of wind that I knew it was gonna make for gorgeous pictures. We were running a little behind from the schedule I had set but we still had plenty of time before sunset and since we had multiple photographers going at once, all the models were being put to use and we got an abundance of creative beautiful pictures. We started in a field where I had seen an abundance of cute little flowers and moved on to a section of the park where there was a beautiful trail hidden between the trees where the sun lined up perfectly for photography. We took the models everywhere around the area and played with so many poses and backgrounds that it was so fulfilling for all of us creatively.
As it got later and the sun began to set we went uphill towards a field where you could see the mountains in the background and the purple sky was really illuminated. We took turns with the models and I’m really proud of the pictures that I got from this photoshoot.
I wanted to show a little before and after of the magic of photoshop! On the top left you can see the before and after of butterflies I added in and determine your preference. I feel like the picture I got needed very little touching up so adding the butterflies was the bulk of the photoshop in those photos. Below that you can see the before and after of the touch up and editing. I removed some fly away frizz, added some glow on her skin, and touched up some makeup to make it really pop out and be refined. I don’t show a lot of raw images on my blogs so I hope you enjoy the rare glimpse of these and can appreciate the magic of photoshop and editing.
These last four photos are all about movement, movement, movement. I had these girls run back and forth in different locations. I had them jump and skip and twirl and everything in my repertoire to get some beautiful candid action shots. Action shots tend to be some of my favorites because you can see the raw joy of the model as well as the fabric flowing in such a gorgeous way. I highly recommend getting your models to move if you want some gorgeous dynamic photos.
Now here’s some background on my inspiration for this green goddess/ mother earth photoshoot. The beauty of nature is awe-inspiring and captivating. From the majestic mountains to the serene forests, the natural world offers a sense of peace and tranquility that can rejuvenate the soul. The vibrant colors of flowers, the rustling of leaves, the chirping of birds, and the sound of flowing water all create a symphony of sensations that can transport us to a different world. The beauty of nature is not only visually stunning but also a reminder of the interconnectedness of all living things. It is a source of inspiration for poets, painters, and photographers, who have captured its essence in their art. Whether we hike through a forest, swim in an ocean, or watch a sunset, the beauty of nature reminds us of the magic and wonder of life.
Mother Earth, also known as Gaia, is the planet we call home. She is a complex and intricate system of interdependent ecosystems that provide us with the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food we eat. She is our life support system, sustaining all living creatures and maintaining the delicate balance of nature. Mother Earth has been around for billions of years, and throughout that time, she has endured countless changes and transformations. From the tiniest microorganisms to the largest mammals, all living things are connected and dependent on her. However, in recent times, we humans have caused significant damage to our planet through pollution, deforestation, and climate change. It is crucial that we recognize our responsibility to protect and preserve Mother Earth for future generations. We must work together to restore her health and ensure her sustainability for the years to come. It is our duty to treat her with respect, honor her beauty, and live in harmony with all living things.
Greenery and nature have been a beloved subject of photography for as long as cameras have been around. From the earliest days of photography to the modern era of digital photography, capturing the beauty of the natural world has been a common and popular theme. There is something about the beauty and tranquility of nature that can be both inspiring and soothing to the soul, and this is what makes it such an appealing subject for photographers.
One of the most fascinating aspects of nature photography is the diversity of subjects available. From towering mountain ranges to tiny flowers and insects, the natural world offers an endless array of subjects to capture through the lens of a camera. This variety is what makes nature photography so exciting and challenging, as photographers must find ways to capture the essence of each subject and convey its beauty to the viewer.
One of the key techniques in nature photography is the use of light. The way the sun illuminates a landscape or a subject can create dramatic and stunning effects. For example, the golden light of sunrise or sunset can transform a landscape into a magical and ethereal scene. Photographers can also use different lighting techniques, such as backlighting or sidelighting, to create depth and contrast in their images.
Another technique commonly used in nature photography is the use of perspective. By playing with angles and viewpoints, photographers can create images that are both unique and striking. A bird’s-eye view of a forest canopy, for example, can offer a breathtaking and rarely seen perspective of a familiar scene.
Greenery, in particular, is a popular subject in nature photography. The lush green landscapes, intricate details of plants, and the beauty of the natural world make for stunning and captivating images. The color green is also soothing to the eyes and has been shown to have a calming effect on the mind.
I wanted to give a huge thank you to the wonderful models Denise, Kristen, and Maya for showing up and giving their all on this chilly day. As well as the photographers that tagged along to get their own photos including Ryan, Noah, and Jr. We had such a great time and all of us even went to get sushi after to celebrate Ryan’s birthday so happy late birthday Ryan!
