When Asher Litwin called me and asked if I could shoot his wedding I had no idea that the referral came from a person dear to my past Barbara Tiferet Rosenthal, mother of the bride. I was thrilled of course to have the honor to shoot her daughter’s wedding… Lindsay Litwin. Lindsay had just converted to Orthodox Judaism from the more regular sect so this wedding had some pretty fun and interesting traditions that I had not seen before! It was so fun to experience this culture I don’t get to see often.

The wedding was held on a beautiful Sunday! It was a tiny bit hazy and warm but not too warm. The venue, The Barn at Aliso Viejo Ranch, is a pretty new venue.. You should definitely check it out, it’s beautiful! The staff was amazing and super helpful throughout the day. The day went by like a breeze thanks to Shevi’s Events – Batsheva Bollinger. Batsheva held it all together and the day was perfect. She was the coordinator for the day and the day went so smoothly and put together thanks to her. She was PERFECTION.

Of course our easy going bride and groom were also perfect on their wedding day. Lindsay being newer to the traditions just went with it and had a great time. She truly embraced the culture she was becoming a part of and went with confidence through it all.

We started with our first look. Lindsay looked gorgeous in her BHLDN dress. Asher was of course handsome in his Blue super cool suit. They both were so easy in front of the camera, Asher stated that’s it due to the years in drama classes! Afterwards we started the ceremony which included many Orthodox Judaism traditions from the Bedeken, Ketubah, Chuppah, Hora and much more.

Finally after the ceremony we went into reception where the Seuda was segregated and men and women danced separately with a large curtain separating them. That was the first time I saw this.. it was fun to photograph.. although I will say the men dance themselves to pure exhaustion! Later in the night at dusk they lit menorahs, as part of Chanukkah, which were stunning and made for some beautifully lit pictures. They then ended the night dancing the hora, which is when the bride and groom get lifted in chairs and dance around. It was so much fun and so lively. The Rabbi looked so happy for this couple and was such a joy to see.

The singers did such a great job as well, turning popular songs into Yiddish takes talent! Not to mention the AMAZING Thai food that was catered by Pedouth Isti of Elegance and Kosher catering. They even catered the cake and dessert table as well which were killer! I’ve never had Thai food at a wedding and it’s one of my favorite cuisines so it was awesome to see. And the dessert table… just wow. They had custard filled donuts, pastries, dessert cups, they had one of the best dessert bars I’ve ever seen.

I loved shooting this wedding! Lindsay and Asher were such a lovely and photogenic couple to shoot and I’m so grateful to have been a part of their big day!!! Getting to shoot an Orthodox Jewish wedding is not something I get to do often so I’m always excited when one comes around, and having such a sweet couple just adds to the magic. The long held traditions and customs were super interesting to me and the love felt in the air was definitely solidified that day.
