Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful Boy
Little Baby Hendrix comes in for his Newborn mini sessionHendrix was born July 1st at 7:54 am weighing 8lbs 4 oz and was a whopping 21 3/4 inches long. Welcome to the world Hendrix!!! Maya and I loved photographing you. He was an absolute dream. He stayed asleep for his entire 1 hour session barely making a peep while I changed his wraps.
If your newborn baby was born around the whittier, Pico Rivera, Montebello, Norwalk, Hacienda Heights, or Rowland heights area please give me a call so that we can schedule you in for your newborn session. Don’t worry we won’t turn you away even if your baby’s a little older.
I often get phone calls from mommies who are desperate to have their newborn photos but had no idea that newborns needed to be in before 10 days. I have gotten phone calls from moms whose babies are two or three months old looking for newborn photos.
To clarify this is normally the timeline of Milestone photos for babies…
Newborn photos are ideally taken between 5 to 8 days of birth and usually no older than 10 days old. If the baby was born preemie we can make an exception to have a baby come in before 12 to 14 days. If the baby was born late we actually prefer the baby to be in earlier.
3 months old is the next baby milestone with the baby being able to pull his or her head up… These are super cute.
The next baby Milestone portrait is the six-month session which is my personal favorite aside from the newborn. At 6 months the baby is sitting up and when laying on his or her back can normally grab the toes. This is the time when babies normally interact and giggle and so seeing the baby’s personality is always a blast.
The next milestone is the one-year session. We do two types of sessions for one year. We can do a cake smash with lots of props and a cake or we can do a family portrait session outdoors with some outdoor props focusing on the baby and the family.
I hate to turn anybody away looking for newborn photos but here is the reason why newborn photos have to be taken within the 5 to 10-day range. Newborn baby portrait photography is heavily focused on particular poses. Normally the baby is asleep and we manipulate a particular workflow in order to get all those adorable baby photos that you see. I normally start with the potato pose on a flokati…aka faux fur. And then I transition into my bean bag posing which goes from siding pose, to the bum up pose, to head on hands, and then ideally to the froggy pose which most babies don’t do but if they come in really early we have a higher likelihood of getting this pose. After the bean bag posing, we do a couple of prop poses. Where we put the baby into some props and photograph them in super cute poses. We can use crates and boxes for the newborn photography or we can use beds or buckets there are tons and tons of props to choose from.
But and this is a big but… The baby will only fall asleep and allow him or herself to be moved if the baby is very very young under 10 days. The farther away you get from the 5 to 8-day newborn photography window the more difficult it becomes to pose the baby and keep the baby asleep while we are posing. As the baby is older it is more aware and more awake and also more sensitive to being touched. Very newborn babies are often very very sleepy and can be moved and opposed and they stay deep asleep.
So I’m not trying to be a meanie when I say that you’re 18-day-old baby is too old for newborn photos. I’m not trying to be offensive. So what I did was I made a 1-hour newborn mini session with only wrapped poses. It’s a tiny package but we are able to get beautiful poses with the baby wrapped.
So for many mommies, it may not be ideal not to get those cute little naked poses but for a lot of mommies who were a little late for their newborn photography that package works out perfectly.
Babies that are up to a month old will still fall asleep when they are wrapped and wrapped poses are also really beautiful.
With my mini newborn wrapped only session, I do the flokati pose… A couple of wrapped poses on the bean bag and then a couple of props poses. Plenty of options for this small package.
Eliza brought in Hendrix at about 20 days old and we photographed him with all wrapped poses.
She and her mom came in…Cora with adorable Hendrix. The nice thing about having this package is I get to see chubbier babies since they are a little bit older. They are so adorable.
