I rarely get to shoot Quinceaneras! Most people don’t have the budget to be able to afford my pricing with events like quinceañeras. I don’t have different pricing for quinceañeras and weddings it’s all the same pricing… it’s all the same work There is basically very little difference between quinceaneras and weddings. So it’s really nice when a high-end quinceañera contacts me and I get to be a part of one of these awesome days! Veronica found me through a YouTube video from a wedding that I shot at the Betty Reckas Cultural Center in Long Beach . she loved my work. When she booked Betty Reckas Cultural Center she immediately booked my services.
We started the day in her beautiful home For the getting ready photos and my daughter Maya joined me to assist. Valentina’s dress was huge and beige/pink showered in little pink flowers and beads that mostly just covered the bust. She had a nude shawl she wore with it and it all came together beautifully. Valentina had nude heels, her favorite perfume, a white pearl headband, and a bouquet filled with pink, purple, and white flowers. We shot their framed invitations and jewelry as well. Her mom helped her get dressed and we were ready for the day ahead. After shooting some beautiful photos of Valentina getting dressed and ready We headed to the gorgeous church where she held her ceremony. Saint Peter and Paul church in Wilmington was one of the most beautiful backdrops for This type of event. The lighting was so dramatic as you can tell from the photos below. It definitely made for some dramatic images. The surprising thing about this quinceañera is that For the first time ever … Instead of hearing a choir or a mariachi or a woman screeching in high soprano, they hired the most beautiful voiced singer-songwriter I have ever heard at a church before! Juan Carlos Suarez… Juan Carlos sang in a style that is reminiscent of Julio Iglesias and the classic singer-songwriters of Mexico. I was so shocked and mesmerized by his music and voice. I highly highly recommend this guy for any church functions such as weddings or quinceañeras! His email is jcguitarralatina@msn.com . It was seriously phenomenal.
After the ceremony, we shot some family and friend portraits and headed to Shoreline Village in Long Beach to shoot formals. Finally after shooting some fun formals. We headed over to the reception at Betty Reckas Cultural Center where there were so many beautiful details that were carefully curated by Valentina’s mom Veronica Magallon Enriquez and her close friend Lili. EVERYTHING WAS GORGEOUS! There was a wall of fresh flowers used as an area to take photos. And a BEYOND huge dessert bar filled with everything you could think of surrounded her birthday cake. Everything was covered in little pink tea roses and was absolutely elegant and beautiful. The Betty Reckas Cultural Center was huge and there was plenty of space for Valentina’s guests to dance and move around comfortably. Later in the evening, her parents gave speeches that were so heartfelt and precious. You could see how much they loved their daughter. They did a dance with both the parents and Valentina’s younger sister and it was so sweet. They played a slideshow of Valentina’s childhood and once everyone had cried their eyes out the live band picked up again and the dancing began! Usually, when I shoot events with teenagers (like Bar Mitzvahs or Quincenearas) they’re really awkward on the dance floor or just plain avoid it but Valentina had some amazing fun friends who were dancing their hearts out! It was so cool to see and I love when kids are just being kids and aren’t embarrassed or feeling the need to pretend to be cool. So a big shout out to Valentina, her friends, and the band for keeping the dance floor popping all night!
They had @Touchmepb for a photo booth and they have one of those cool photo booths that have a mirror that you touch. it’s super awesome! For music, they had Arturo Ramirez at JDR2O and live music from Grupo Esmeralda Show Esmerelda ! They even hired a fine artist to paint during the reception! And one last thing that I wanna say…I have worked at hundreds, if not thousands of venues over my time as a photographer and I cannot say that I have ever gotten such smiling and happy staff as the staff at Betty Reckas Cultural Center. They were professional, quick, super friendly, and such a pleasure to work with. I will be sure to leave a raving Yelp review.
