Not only is Shyann gorgeous but she’s truly one of the kindest and best people I know. I always shoot her a message when I need a model and she’s always excited and up for the task. I’m constantly grateful for her existence and she always expresses how grateful she is to get photos from the world’s greatest photographer (me, obviously).
I’ve wanted to take photos at Vasquez Rocks for some time now, so we set up a date and headed out before sunrise at 3-4 in the morning. My crew and I for the day included my second shooter Noah and my good friend and photographer Gonzalo (Jr.). They, Shy, and Jay met up at my house and we all drove up to Vasquez Rocks together. It was absolutely gorgeous as the sun came over the rocks.
Fun fact: all the outfits you see in these pictures that Shyann is wearing (except for the green dress) are a part of my client wardrobe and available for you to wear at your next session with me for completely free. I love expanding my client wardrobe so if you give me ideas or themes to go off of for your engagement session I can keep an eye out for something I think would look good on you for your session. I also try to get dresses that can fit many sizes or I’ll buy dresses that are larger and take them in for smaller girls.
I focus a lot on providing tips and tricks when it comes to posing and so for this photoshoot I knew they were gonna be perfect to try my favorite couples posing techniques with. My posing tips are directed to my clients, other photographers, or absolutely anyone who wants to elevate their boring old standing and smiling at the camera posing. I like to call how I photograph during these sessions “prompted posing”. Prompted posing is what most people would consider a more candid style but I give the person or persons in front of me prompts such as walking or swaying or twirling. That way we can still get more natural photos but the couple doesn’t have to wonder what they should do next. If it were true candid style such as with photojournalism then the couple would just be doing what they would normally do if I wasn’t there and I would capture it. I tend to think with my style that we get a lot more out of a photo session and a lot of variety of some really cute poses that all stem from natural action movements. Of course, some of my poses are actually posed such as when they’re in a difficult position and I’m going for a sort of dramatic look like the last one in this blog on the rocks, but most of the time I tend to prefer movement movement movement.
Shyann is practically family to me and her boyfriend, Jay, is so good to her. They’ve been together for a few years now and I’ve never seen Shy so happy. I am so endlessly grateful for Shyann. You may have seen her in some of my other creative model shoots (see photos below) and as you can she is absolutely gorgeous and I’m such a fan of her long flowing red hair. One of the things about Shyann that really stands out is how beautiful she is both inside and out.
Thank you for reading this blog and a big thank you to Shyann and Jay for getting up before sunrise and being the perfect models for me and my crew. I always enjoy spending time with them and I can’t wait for the next model call.
